Graphics file format latex
Suppose for example that when you printed your image to a file, the image was 2 inches by 2 inches and situated in the upper left hand corner of an 8. By putting the image in a scalebox, and specifying a scale factor, you can magnify or shrink your image.
If for example we wanted to reduce myimage to a one inch square, we would use the following statement to shrink it by a factor of 0. Most Web graphics today are compressed so that they can be transmitted more quickly.
Other types of compression can save a lot more space, but the price you pay is degraded image quality. TIFF Most graphics file formats were created with a particular use in mind, although most can be used for a wide variety of image types. Another common bit-mapped image type is Tagged Image File Format, which is used in faxing, desktop publishing and medical imaging. Here are the latest Insider stories. More Insider Sign Out. Arthur Reutenauer: nonetheless, I think that it is a useful feature of graphicx for people to know about and that someone interested in this question might well find it useful. However, I have added a little on converting back and forth and, in particular, found a package that will do the conversion that you want! Sure, it's useful. On the contrary, you need to know which format to use in which case, and you need to do the conversion beforehand except in the notable case of epstopdf, as mentioned by Joseph.
Arthur Reutenauer: I interpret it a little differently, I think. The question "I always use pdflatex so which do I use? The question "I find myself using both pdflatex and latex and get confused as to what to use. Can anyone help me? That is what I was trying to explain, and that is what I think is useful to know. Most usefully for the original problem, there is mptopdf , which is a modification of Hobby's mpost to create PDFs natively that was implemented, I think, by Hans Hagen together with the Metafun extensions, and is the parent of the mplib codebase used to set Metapost in Luatex.
See Pragma's Metapost and Metafun pages. John Hobby extended the Metapost programs to support their use with the Troff typesetting system in a manner very similar to its use with Tex. This opens up possibilities for setting Metapost, but ones that are inconvenient to use with Tex and which I think are not actively maintained.
